Q: What is SOLUS?
SOLUS is an electronic delivery platform

Q: What is an Electronic Delivery Platform?
An Electronic Delivery Platform is an online resource in which you will find all the materials needed for any courses you might attend at the Scottish Police College or simply wish to view. The platform can be can be accessed from any web enabled computer either at your place of work or at home.

Q: How do I access SOLUS?
The material can be accessed once you have registered and have created your own Learning Profile. Course materials are then accessed through the links in the sub menu to the left. Then simply click on the service you require.

Q: Can I access all the material on SOLUS?
Yes! You will be able to access any of the materials on any of the courses on SOLUS. However, although you can view the reading materials for all of the courses, you will not be able to access any course forums unless you are registered as a course participant. Courses with a forum are generally part of the ACPOS Programme of Continuous Professional Development.

Q: Is there any cost to Forces?
No cost, SOLUS is supplied free to the Forces by the SPSA.

Q: How can I access the learning material?
After you have registered and received your unique username and password you will be asked to create a Learning Profile. By creating your own Learning Profile you gain access to materials for any of the learning areas you are interested in by simply clicking on the ‘button’ displayed.
When you log on in future a list will appear on the left hand column of all of the learning areas you have requested access to. By clicking on one of these you will find a list of all the various courses of sections of a module displayed. Click on the title you wish to view. This will open up the various sections of the module, click again into these sections and you will find all the course material and further reading. Materials can either be opened online or downloaded as a work document, by clicking on the appropriate icon.
All documents open as Word files, therefore you can use them as you wish, save them to your desktop, increase font size etc as you would with any other word document. You can add to or delete anything on your Learning Profile.

Q: Will I still receive the same level of Tutor Support?
Yes. The SOLUS system is designed to enhance and support all learning mediums and tutor support is produced on a course to course basis and the level of tutor support will be outlined in the course information.

Q: Will I be given any training to operate SOLUS?
SOLUS will be an easy to use system with training being given to administrators. Other general users however should follow the access instructions provided and any on screen instructions. Further assistance may be founf in the help areas, forum groups and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Q: I find it hard to study using a PC what alternatives are there?
All of the material delivered on SOLUS can be printed off, so users not comfortable with on-line studying can use paper based solutions by pressing the print option.

Q: If I have a problem whilst on SOLUS, who will help me and how long will it take?
There will be a help telephone & contact email address if you have any problems, either accessing the platform or any of the materials.

Q: How do I access the forum?
You are automatically added to the forum when you log into the site, simply click on the forum icon at the top left of the platform.

Q: What is a forum?
A forum is a space on the site where people can go and talk to others who may be using the same learning material. This is the space where you can ask questions and get other peoples ideas and perspective on the given topic.

Q: What do I do if I forget my password?
Click on the forgotton password link in the logon screen and send your email address to the email address given, your password will then automatically send you your password.

Q: What do I do if I forget my username & password?
Send an email to help@goodpractice.net and they will re-send your username and password to you.

Q: What if I want to change my password?
When you enter the platform, click on the control panel text on the top left of the platform, then click on My Profile, you will then see you details, click on the reset password icon and add in your new password, press submit and your new details will be saved. An email will then be sent to your listed email address confirming these details.
