SOLUS (Scottish Open Learning User System) is Gaelic for knowledge, brightness and light and the SOLUS environment will hopefully provide you with the means to improve your own knowledge through the learning materials that are provided.
The SOLUS site enables students and staff to access not only course material but also course information and joining instructions. Information is available from each of the four college training divisions; (Crime Management, Leadership and Management, Probationer Training and Road Policing as well as Training and Educational Standards.) and includes materials from the ACPOS Professional Development Programme Courses.
SOLUS is an electronic delivery platform which is designed to provide secure and cost-effective access to training materials for a wide range of courses. You can use SOLUS like a library to gain access any of the course materials stored on SOLUS, by creating your own Learning Profile after you have registered and received a user name and password. This platform also contains information about courses, assessment guidelines, Joining instructions and general course information.
This resource is designed to give you a blended approach to the learning experience. In many cases information and content will be built upon and will contextualise your classroom sessions. If you are using SOLUS to access pre-read material it is important you complete the required learning before you attend any classroom session, as this will ensure a comprehensive learning experience.
