The Probationer Training Programme is delivered over a total of 104 weeks. The first 64 weeks is divided into five modules during which the probationary officers are assessed both in the operational environment at Force and in the academic environment at the Scottish Police College. The remaining time is served operationally in force with continued supervision and guidance.
The training delivered during the various modules of the Programme should not be looked on in isolation. Each phase forms a core element of the probationers' development over the two-year training period and aims to support the further enhancement of skills and knowledge throughout the officers' careers.
This is a new Probationer Training Programme. It has been introduced after an extensive review of Probationer Training by Scottish Police Forces, the Scottish Police College and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS).
