Joining the police

The Scottish Police College trains all new recruits joining the Police in Scotland however, responsibility for recruitment of Police Officers lies with each of the eight individual Forces.

Basic recruitment criteria requires that applicants should:

  • Be aged 18 years old or over
  • Be a British citizen, or a citizen of the EU
  • Have good eyesight
  • Complete a physical assessment
  • Be of good character

Whilst these criteria hold for all Forces within Scotland, individually Forces may have additional criteria which applicants must comply with.

If you are interested in applying to join the Scottish Police Service you should:

  • Contact the Force within which you wish to serve to gain full details.
  • Only apply to one Force at any time.
